Great Yarmouth is the largest seaside resort on the East Anglian coast and one of the most complete in Britain — a working harbour town with a five-mile beach, a Golden Mile of arcades and rides, two piers, and a deep history that runs from medieval herring fleet to twenty-first-century offshore wind. The local guide to Great Yarmouth
If you've never visited, picture all the energy of Blackpool compressed into a more walkable town with fresher seafood.
The Golden Mile is Yarmouth's headline act: Pleasure Beach with its 1932 wooden roller coaster, the Hippodrome circus (one of only two surviving permanent circuses in the country), the Sea Life Centre, and a packed parade of takeaways, fish-and-chip shops, ice-cream parlours and traditional pubs. Step a few streets back from the seafront and Yarmouth's older soul shows itself — the Rows, the Tolhouse, South Quay's Georgian merchants' houses, and the Time and Tide museum tell the herring-port story properly.
The town has a serious caravan and holiday-park economy stretching north through Caister and Hemsby, and south into Gorleston. Weekend nights bring tribute acts and live music to dozens of bars on Marine Parade and Regent Road, while the daytime crowd heads to Joyland (one of the country's last surviving small-scale fairgrounds) and the Pleasure Gardens.
